In 2015, while working as senior graphic designer at Totem, a custom content division of Transcontinental, I joined the creative team of Apex Magazine to help design a brand-new custom editorial publication for Acura USA. Under the creative direction of Michèle Champagne, I worked alongside photographers and illustrators for the first time to create a full editorial product from the ground up, to feature Acura’s American-made supercar, the NSX.
A bespoke printing process allowed us to showcase the cars in a vibrant and realistic manner, with rain and dust on the body, rather than in the conventional over-photoshopped way we’re used to seeing with vehicle imagery. The magazine was distributed by direct mail to Acura’s highest value customers and at premium events and car shows. It was then republished by Acura Canada, and it won the Ozzie Award for Best New Custom Content Magazine Design at the 2016 Folio Awards. It was also a finalist in various other categories at the 2016 Content Marketing Awards.
